Estonian panorama 1 (latest short films)
Saturday August 25 - 7pm
See also Estonian panorama 2
Sunday 26 August 5pm
The animated film has played a significant cultural role in Estonia. While it might come as a surprise to many, Estonias’ animation community ranks among the best in the world. Its films, which combine surrealist wit and Estonian folklore with childlike innocence, have won awards throughout the world. Many international festivals have offered screenings in honour of Estonian animation.
We are very proud to present two programmes of films dedicated to this tiny animated nation and welcome two guests – Priit Tender and Mait Laas - who will introduce these programmes and talk about what it is that makes Estonian animation so unique.
These sessions have been made possible by the generosity of Reet Remmel and the Estonian Embassy.

A session of the latest short films from the most well known animation studios – Nukufilm and Eesti Joonisfilm – most of them British premieres.
Mait Laas and Priit Tender, renowned Estonian animators, will be taking part in a discussion after the screening of the Estonian panoramas. Mait has been involved in most of the Nukufilm productions since he joined the studio 13 years ago, has lectured on animation, organised animation workshops, opened exhibitions with his graphics and had six books published since 1993. Priit has been working at Eesti Joonisfilm since 1995, made 8 animated films and been involved with countless others. His films have been seen at festivals worldwide and won many awards.
