LIAF 2014 Barbican Framed Film Club: Tom and the Slice of Bread with Strawberry Jam and Honey + Intro by Andreas Hykade (U)

November 1, 2014
11:00 am

Enter a magical world where the everyday stands side-by-side with the extraordinary, and logic rubs shoulders with total confusion.

The eponymous Tom has one thing on his mind: he wants a delicious slice of bread with strawberry jam and honey.

And since Tom is active and energetic he doesn’t simply wait for the bread with strawberry jam and honey to fly into his mouth, he seizes the initiative.

He takes action, and every time he has a good idea he stumbles headfirst into a new adventure. He rides away on the Miller’s pig, outwits a greedy strawberry mouse and is taught how to win a game of cards by a little girl.

The only predictable thing is that something unpredictable will happen.

And help is always at hand in the form of his many friends. Whatever does happen, Tom always ends up with only half a slice of bread with strawberry jam and honey – but he finds that tastes just as good as a whole slice.

Bold and distinctive yet warm and enthralling, Tom has been created for pre-school kids by award-winning director Andreas Hykade, and features the voice of Bafta-winner Ben Miller.

Andreas Hykade will be here in person to introduce this very special look back at some of the best episodes of Tom and the Slice of Bread with Strawberry Jam and Honey especially chosen for this screening by Andreas himself.

We’ll also be screening a Retrospective of Andreas’ work followed by a Q&A on 30 October. As well as this, Andreas will also be running an Animation Masterclass on 1 November.

Andreas Hykade’s visit to LIAF has been made possible by the generosity of the Goethe Institute.
